I Gusti Nyoman Nodia
B. 1951
I Gusti Nyoman Nodia is one of the few painters from Tanah Lot, Tabanan, Bali, known for his distinctive batik-inspired style. Active since the 1970s, he has exhibited widely across Bali and other Indonesian cities. His works often feature bright compositions depicting banten (Balinese offerings), angkul-angkul (traditional gateways), and everyday Balinese life, rendered with a balance of color, rhythm, and simplicity.
Nodia’s approach combines traditional Balinese motifs with a modern sensibility. His use of fluid lines, symbolic forms, and spacious compositions reflects a meditative quality, while his playful abstraction recalls the surreal biomorphic forms of Joan Miró. Deeply rooted in Balinese culture yet open to universal expression, his paintings bridge local tradition and modern art with subtle sophistication.
