Jason Monet
1938 – 2009
Jason Monet was a British painter, sculptor, and environmentalist whose work captured the vibrancy of tropical life and the beauty of nature. Born in Chelsea, London, in 1938, he studied Commercial Art at the Christopher Wren Technical School and graduated from the London School of Printing and Graphic Art, majoring in design. Though he began his career in commercial art, Monet soon turned to painting and sculpture, developing a bold and expressive style that reflected his passion for color, texture, and form.
Throughout his life, Monet lived and worked across England, Australia, the West Indies, Malta, Fiji, and most notably Bali, Indonesia, where he settled in Ubud. The island’s light, landscapes, and people became enduring sources of inspiration for his paintings and sculptures, which often incorporated natural materials such as wood and stone.
