Effendi
1957 – 2019
Effendi was born in Malang, East Java, in 1957 and later studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, completing his education in 1986. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous exhibitions across Indonesia and received significant recognition for his contributions to contemporary surrealist painting.
He was twice listed among the top ten finalists of the Philip Morris Indonesia Art Award (1995 and 1997), won 3rd Prize at the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Award (1995), and received the Special Prize at the 7th Osaka Triennale in Japan (1996). One of his notable works, Kasih Ibu Sepanjang Masa (1989), is part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Indonesia. He is widely known for his surrealist paintings, marked by symbolic imagery and a distinctive, dreamlike atmosphere.
