Lucien Frits Ohl

1904 – 1976

Lucien Frits Ohl (1904-1976) was a self-taught painter born in Palembang, South Sumatra, best known for his atmospheric and romantic depictions of Indonesian landscapes and Asian panoramas.

Working mainly in oil, watercolour, and drawing, Ohl's style was often compared to that of G.P. Adolfs, capturing the charm and feel of tropical life. He lived for many years in Jakarta, where the local environment deeply inspired his work, before moving to The Hague, Netherlands, where he continued to paint until his passing.
