Haryanto Gunawan developed his interest in art during his performative years at Fachhochschule Rheinland-Pfalz Mainz, Germany, where he majored in Visual Communication in 1986. For the next 20 years, he closely followed the evolution of abstract painting while building his career, founding both a design agency and the regional visual arts magazine C-Arts. After two decades of observing and engaging with the field, he eventually began practicing abstract painting himself.
