Siont Teja
B. 1958
Siont Teja was born in Jakarta in 1958 and showed an interest in drawing and visual art from an early age. Between 1973 and 1979, he developed his painting skills through direct study with several professional artists.
In 1980, he began teaching as a painting instructor and actively participated in group exhibitions from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. In 1994, however, he decided to stop painting and shifted his career toward becoming an art collector and dealer. He focused on trading works by Indonesian masters and often traveled to countries such as the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China to seek artworks through auction houses.
In 2003, he founded Gallery M20-21 in Meruya, West Jakarta, and later published two books on the works of maestro Lee Man Fong, presented at the Museum Art Retreat in Singapore. After more than three decades in the art world as a collector and gallerist, Siont Teja returned to painting in 2024, demonstrating a creative spirit that never ceased.
