I Ketut Gelgel

I Ketut Gelgel was born in Pengosekan, Ubud, in 1944. Orphaned at a young age, he was raised by his father and grandmother. His father, I Ketut Merta, a priest, encouraged him to paint as a way to remember his late mother.

Gelgel later studied painting for more than 25 years under his father-in-law, I Wayan Gedot, and became closely associated with the Ubud painting circle guided by Rudolf Bonnet. He recognized Gelgel's talent early and introduced his works to Museum Puri Lukisan. Gelgel is known for works rooted in personal memory and everyday life.
