Arifien Neif was born in Surabaya in 1955. A self-taught artist, he became widely recognized for his slightly naïve style and distinctive figurative compositions.
Before pursuing art full-time, Neif worked as a mason. His artistic talent, however, led him to assist with interior design projects for a friend. This experience inspired him to dedicate himself fully to painting in 1980. Neif’s paintings are deeply influenced by everyday life, transforming ordinary moments into imaginative and romantic compositions. His unique style blends impressionism and romanticism, elevating simple scenes with a dreamlike, slightly surreal quality.
He held solo exhibitions at Bin House, Jakarta (1989), and the Lorin & Kristy Art Gallery, Singapore (1995). Since 1989, he has participated in various solo and group exhibitions, including Tresor International Fine Art Exhibition in Singapore (1993 & 1994), Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia / Bradbury International Fine Art Exhibition in Jakarta (1994), and Gallery Santi (1995–1997).
