Edi Sunaryo (b. 1951, Banyuwangi) studied at ASRI Yogyakarta and continued at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), majoring in Fine Arts. Influenced by the rise of abstract expressionism in the 1970s, his work is known for its spontaneous yet thoughtful compositions, blending texture, color, and form as a symbol of artistic and cultural freedom.
He received the Best Painting award from ASRI Yogyakarta (1975) and the Pratisara Affandi Adikarya award (1975, 1976). His works have been exhibited in Indonesia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, and Italy, with solo exhibitions held in 1987, 1992, and 2000.
