Sudjono Abdullah
Sudjono Abdullah was born in Yogyakarta in 1911. He was the son of Abdullah Suriosubroto, a renowned landscape painter, and the brother of Basoeki Abdullah. As a child, he would help his father clean paint palettes, sparking his own passion for becoming a painter. Sudjono completed his education at the HIS (Hollandsch-Inlandsche School, an Indonesian-Dutch school) and later worked as a poster artist for Rex Theater in Yogyakarta.
During the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, he retreated to Parangtritis and Parangkusumo, where he continued his painting practice. In the 1970s, Sudjono moved to Kertosono, East Java, where he lived until his passing in 1993.
