Henk Ngantung
The Indonesian painter and one-time governor of Jakarta, Henk Ngantung, born in 1921 as Hendrik Hermanus Joel Ngantung. He was a self-taught artist with a profound impact on Indonesian art and politics. Between 1960 and 1964, Sukarno appointed him as vice-governor of Jakarta for his vision of transforming the city into a cultured capital. His brief tenure as governor from 1964 to 1965 marked his contribution to the nation beyond the canvas.
