Louis Nagelkerke
Louis Nagelkerke is a Dutch artist known for his paintings, drawings, and ceramic works. Educated in the Netherlands, he became recognized from the 1980s for his expressive portraits and figurative compositions. His works have been exhibited at venues including the Westfries Museum and are held in several public and private collections, including the Neka Art Museum in Bali.
Indonesia, particularly Bali, has been a major source of inspiration in Nagelkerke’s work. Fascinated by the island’s spiritual atmosphere, traditions, and performing arts, he frequently portrays dancers, musicians, and Balinese figures. Through these subjects, Nagelkerke seeks to capture not only their physical presence but also the sense of mysticism, culture, and everyday life that surrounds them.
