Ugy Sugiarto
B. 1969
Ugy Sugiarto is an Indonesian contemporary realist painter known for his thought-provoking visual concepts. He was nominated for the UNESCO Thousand Mysteries of Borobudur Fine Art Competition in 2007 and has participated in group exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Jakarta.
Ugy’s works often explore contrasts within modern society, using plastic and mud as metaphors for opposing forces in human life. The human figures in his paintings are frequently portrayed as being bound by plastic, symbolizing the power and confinement of technology created by humankind itself.
