Robert Mason studied at Hornsey College of Art and The British School at Rome. He won first prize at the Bayer Herlandschaften International in 1974 and second prize at the International Drawing Biennale in 1977. His solo exhibitions include presentations at the Yale Center for British Art (1986 and 1991), the British Council in Hong Kong (2000), Centro De Arte De São João de Madeira in Portugal (2004), and Edwin's Gallery in Jakarta (2007).
His work has been shown in major group exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Walker Art Gallery, and many more. Mason's work is held in distinguished public and private collections worldwide, including the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Yale Center for British Art, and the Arts Council of Great Britain.
