Muhammad Lugas Syllabus

B. 1987

Lugas Syllabus is an Indonesian painter and sculptor based in Yogyakarta. He is known for works that reflect the ironies of modern and contemporary society, often blending elements of pop culture, media, technology, folklore, and personal memory. Lugas developed a love for art from an early age and decided to pursue it as a career during high school. He later studied painting at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Influenced by his father and uncle, both artists themselves, he built the discipline of painting every day.

Lugas has participated in numerous international artist residency programs, including in Passau (Germany), Brisbane (Australia), and Singapore. His paintings, often described as poetic and allegorical, draw on everyday life and storytelling. After exhibiting Da Vinci Codex in Milan and Goya’s Paper in Madrid, he began to incorporate hidden messages more deliberately into his work.
