Born in Surakarta, Central Java, in 1943, Aming Prayitno studied painting at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI) Yogyakarta and continued his education at the Koninklijk Akademie Voor Schone Kunsten in Gent, Belgium. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including the Raden Saleh Award (1972), Best Work at the Indonesian Painting Biennale (1974 and 1980), and Best Work at the Yogyakarta Painting Biennale (1992).
