I Nyoman Gunarsa
1944 – 2017
I Nyoman Gunarsa was born in Klungkung, Bali, on April 15, 1944. He graduated from the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta, where he later became a lecturer in art.
He began his career as a painter of models and portraits. Since 1967, he has actively held solo exhibitions, including at the British Embassy, Jakarta (1967), Arcade Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1971), Blance Gallery, San Francisco (1991), Blance Gallery, Osaka (1982), 21 Gallery, Singapore (1995), Opera Gallery, Paris (1996), and Hamburgische Landesbank, Hamburg (1998). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Indonesia and internationally.
Gunarsa has received several prestigious awards, including Pratisara Affandi Adikarya (1976), recognition at the Biennial Indonesian Art Exhibitions (1978 & 1980), and the Lempad Prize (1980). His works are part of collections owned by collectors both locally and abroad.
