Xiang Jing
B. 1968
Xiang Jing is a prominent Chinese sculptor who explores the inner lives and psychological truths of women. A 1995 graduate of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, she sculpts figures marked by moments of insecurity, hesitation, and self-discovery, reflecting a deep investigation into the "internality" of human nature.
Xiang's art rejects conventional beauty standards to portray the raw, imperfect nature of women. Her work, including series like "Keep in Silence" and "Naked Beyond Skin", uses subtle yet powerful details—such as a flabby waistline or an awkward stance—to reveal the deeper, existential truths of the human experience. Xiang Jing works from a woman's perspective to explore themes of identity, the human body, and an individual's relationship with the outside world.
