Wimo Ambala Bayang

Wimo Ambala Bayang is an Indonesian photography artist born in Magelang in 1976. He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, studying Interior Design at the Modern School of Design and later Photography. In addition to actively participating in photography and video art exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad, Wimo has also worked as an independent film director, with works including Berlari untuk Entah (2003) and It Flowed Like Green Lake’s Water.

Wimo’s interest in photography stems from his early passion for drawing, which he views as a parallel form of “drawing” through the camera. For him, photography is a serious yet accessible and democratic medium of artistic expression, open to multiple interpretations. Beyond photography, he continues to explore video as an extension of his artistic ideas, using moving images to further communicate personal and conceptual narratives.
