Lu Hao graduated from the Chinese Ink Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, in 1992. By the late 1990s, he was recognized as an accomplished ink painter and began expanding his artistic language to explore the tension between China’s classical cultural heritage and the rapid push toward modernity.
Lu Hao's works aim to be readily understood while remaining critically engaged. He deliberately avoiding the kind of conceptual opacity favored by some of his contemporaries. He has held solo exhibitions in Beijing, Tokyo, and New York, and has participated in major international group exhibitions at institutions such as the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, and Kunstmuseum Bern, Switzerland.
