Global Auction Presents 140 Artworks in Its First Auction of 2025

After the holiday season, Global Auction is kicking off 2025 by presenting 140 exceptional artworks in the Southeast Asian, Chinese, Modern, and Contemporary auction. This event features a timed online auction followed by a live online auction, running from 15 January 2025 to 8 February 2025. The live online auction will conclude on 8 February 2025 at 4 PM. During the auction period, the artworks will also be available for public viewing at Global Auction offices in either Jakarta or Singapore, depending on the lot’s location.

Auction Highlights

This auction proudly presents a diverse range of artworks spanning various mediums, genres, and styles. Featured are works by renowned Southeast Asian modern artists such as Affandi, Hendra Gunawan, S. Sudjojono, Basoeki Abdullah, and Chen Wen Hsi.
The lineup also includes contemporary pieces by artists like Ay Tjoe Christine, a prominent Indonesian talent whose work holds the record for the highest price achieved by a contemporary Indonesian artist at a public auction. Her artworks also continue to be exhibited in prestigious galleries worldwide.
Let’s explore some highlights from this collection!

The Sow (1978), Affandi

Lot: 001
Affandi
The Sow, 1978
Oil on canvas: 110.5 x 139 cm
Signed and dated, middle right: A, 1978

Affandi’s brushstrokes are instantly recognizable, embodying a timeless style that established him as a maestro of 20th-century Indonesian art. He was also the first Indonesian artist to participate in prestigious international art events, such as the São Paulo Biennale (1952).
In this painting, Affandi depicts a sow, or adult female pig, as the central figure, surrounded by additional pigs, suggesting a farm setting. Bold strokes of black, white, yellow, and red define the composition, while red accents in the sow’s eyes add emotional intensity.
The piece reflects Affandi’s connection to Indonesian everyday life, blending his expressive technique with culturally significant imagery.

Fruits Seller (1976), Hendra Gunawan

Hendra Gunawan’s Fruits Seller vividly captures Indonesian culture through a dynamic market scene. Two women, dressed in contrasting colors—one in vibrant purple and the other in deep black—sell tropical fruits like bananas and soursop. Their outfits are adorned with intricate batik patterns that symbolize Indonesia’s rich heritage. The vibrant color palette is a characteristic of Hendra’s style, radiating life and energy.

A.K.U.2 (2003), Ay Tjoe Christine

Ay Tjoe Christine, a prominent figure in Indonesian contemporary art, is celebrated for her deeply introspective works that are deep into human complexities and personal experiences.
