This August, Global Auction presents one of the most anticipated art events of the year: the Southeast Asian, Chinese, Modern & Contemporary Art Auction, running from 16 August to 6 September 2025.
Featuring 190 carefully curated lots of paintings, sculptures, and luxury watches, the sale brings together icons of Indonesian art such as Hendra Gunawan, Lee Man Fong, and Affandi, alongside celebrated artists from Singapore, Malaysia, China, India, Germany, South Korea, and beyond. The season will conclude with a live online auction on Saturday, 6 September 2025 at 3 PM (UTC+7).
More than a marketplace, this auction invites collectors and art lovers to engage with stories, traditions, and visions that have shaped creativity across generations. Highlights will be on view at Global Auction’s offices in Jakarta and Singapore, offering a rare chance to encounter these works in person before they find their new homes.

Indonesia’s Maestros
The auction opens with an exceptional selection of Indonesian masterpieces. Among them is Hendra Gunawan’s Two Women with Offerings (1975), a striking example of his bold colors. Two powerful works by Affandi are also featured: Self Portrait I (1981), an expressive depiction published in AFFANDI Volume I by Sardjana Sumichan, and Oil Palm Plantation (1987), alive with his signature energy.

The sale further includes Lee Man Fong’s 2 Doves, a gentle and poetic image of one of his favorite subjects, and a painting by S. Sudjojono titled Balinese Hero (1968). Another highlight is Srihadi Soedarsono’s Oleg Tambulilingan (1998), a luminous portrayal of a Balinese dance.

Together with works by Gregorius Sidharta Soegijo, Basoeki Abdullah, Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merprès, and others, these highlights celebrate the richness of Indonesian art and offer collectors the chance to acquire works of lasting significance.
A Collection of Arie Smit
A special highlight of this season is a collection of 29 paintings by Arie Smit, showcasing the breadth of his lifelong dedication to art. After moving to Bali in 1956, Smit made the island his home and later became an Indonesian citizen. He also taught at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), where he inspired many young artists.

Smit’s paintings are instantly recognizable for their vibrant colors, textured brushwork, and playful sense of rhythm. In this collection, his subjects include temples, Balinese landscapes, beaches, flowers, and portraits. Spanning more than four decades, from 1969 to 2011, the works offer a rare glimpse into the evolution of his style and creativity.
Contemporary Paintings
This auction also celebrates the creativity of today, featuring an exciting line-up of contemporary artists. Arkiv Vilmansa brings his bold, colorful works that merge street art, pop culture, and childhood nostalgia. Galam Zulkifli presents The Last Supper, reinterpreting Leonardo da Vinci’s Renaissance masterpiece as a meditation on leadership, morality, and shifting global power.

Also featured is Hasan, whose cartoon-inspired style turns personal themes into imaginative symbols such as monsters, fire, and eyes, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Two works by Ugo Untoro are included: Fire Conductor (2006) and Self Portrait After Showering (2001), both marked by his raw, expressive style. Completing this section is Samsul Arifin with He is Story of Art, showing his iconic fabric doll figure reclining on a bright red couch shaped like a slice of watermelon.

Sculptures
Beyond paintings, the auction presents outstanding sculptures. Yani Mariani’s Riding with the Wind (2007), made of copper, captures movement and elegance. From Taiwan, Chen Wen Ling’s Happy Life Series, ed. 3/10 portrays a barefoot man in a suit holding an upturned pig, transforming a traditional symbol of prosperity into a sharp commentary on consumerism.

Other highlights include F. Widayanto’s Stopping to Conquer, a ceramic reinterpretation of the myth of Narcissus, and works by Dolorosa Sinaga, one of Indonesia’s most important female sculptors, known for her socially engaged and humanist themes.
